Kris Brown  Texans reward kicker Brown with 4-year extension

The Texans have signed kicker Kris Brown to a four-year, $12 million contract extension.  Brown, who scored 124 points last season, will get $2.6 million guaranteed.

Stefan Logan  Fleet Steelers returner downplays long odds

Stefan Logan carried the ball 122 times for 899 yards and had 52 receptions for 477 yards and three touchdowns with the British Columbia Lions last season. He felt so confident about receiving a fair shot with the Steelers that he bypassed tryout opportunities with other teams, including the Carolina Panthers.

Kicker Sam Swank signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. Swank is the school's all-time leading scorer with 337 points.

Kris Brown  Restricted market has attractive options (By Len Pasquarelli ESPN)

On being a restricted free agent in the NFL:  "It's a tricky business for everyone involved," said agent Glenn Schwartzman, who represented then-Pittsburgh kicker Kris Brown when he moved to the Houston Texans as a restricted free agent in 2002. "Everything has to go just right from a lot of different angles. It really has to be well thought-out by everyone."

"I watch him a lot and I always think it's that herky-jerky move that keeps the defense off-balance," Larry Bird said. "He's able to get clean looks down low and he can shoot over about anybody. He's very effective."

Logan spent time with the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed a breakout campaign in his first year in the CFL as he was among the league leaders in rushing yards with 889 yards on just 122 carries.  He also caught 52 passes for 477 yards and three touchdowns. 


Jim Plunkett  Act2, Arlook making Plunkett film

The story of Jim Plunkett, the first Mexican-American quarterback to win the Super Bowl, to the bigscreen.

Act2's Glenn Schwartzman, a Florida-based sports agent, acquired the life rights to Plunkett, the son of two blind parents who became a Heisman trophy winner and Super Bowl MVP.  "What really attracted me to this project, in addition to the great story, are the intangibles," Schwartzman said. "Jim's story is truly heroic. The fact that (he) is Mexican-American will work well to reach a broader audience both here and abroad."

"The reason I took it and the reason I look forward to the challenge is I feel like these guys can still win," Armstrong said of his first NBA coaching job as a Mavericks assistant. "I feel like these guys have the ability to still be an elite team in the West."
