Sidelined swingman Marquis Daniels and his Boston Celtics (who've lost eight of their last 12 games) haven't exactly had the luck of the Irish this season. But things are looking up for the lanky eight-year veteran. This month, Daniels had the hard cast removed from his surgically repaired left thumb, celebrated his 29th birthday and released his fourth mixtape. 


Jay Feely  Jay Feely gets his kicks at Super Bowl fishing tourney

Feely weighed the largest fish of the contest -- a 33.4-pound kingfish.  The tournament, honored former NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and former South Florida player William Bleakley, who were swept away after their boat capsized in rough Gulf seas during a fishing trip in February 2009. Nick Schuyler, a former USF player, was the lone survivor.

Sam finished as the all-time leading scorer at Wake Forest with 337 points. Set school records with 71 field goals and 124 career PATs. Concluded his career ranked 16th in NCAA history in career scoring.

Kris Brown kicked three field goals, including a 28-yarder with 4:36 left in the fourth quarter, as the Houston Texans held on for a 16-13 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Coach Rick Carlisle has promoted Darrell Armstrong up the ladder on his coaching staff after Mario Elie left to join Paul Westphal in Sacramento ... Monte Mathis, who is the Mavericks video coordinator, will coach the summer team, assisted by Armstrong.


 

Kris Brown  Texans reward kicker Brown with 4-year extension

The Texans have signed kicker Kris Brown to a four-year, $12 million contract extension.  Brown, who scored 124 points last season, will get $2.6 million guaranteed.


Jim Plunkett  Act2, Arlook making Plunkett film

The story of Jim Plunkett, the first Mexican-American quarterback to win the Super Bowl, to the bigscreen.

Act2's Glenn Schwartzman    , a Florida-based sports agent, acquired the life rights to Plunkett, the son of two blind parents who became a Heisman trophy winner and Super Bowl MVP.  "What really attracted me to this project, in addition to the great story, are the intangibles," Schwartzman said. "Jim's story is truly heroic. The fact that (he) is Mexican-American will work well to reach a broader audience both here and abroad."
